Duane, this is a steady lament from you. What, precisely, would we add that has not already been said or published? We've already said that this is happening because of the construction work. The schedules have already been adjusted to deal with said construction. There is no path to delaying or stopping the construction legally and, more importantly, there's no good reason to delay or stop it...it's needed to improve service over the medium term. This is not a rhetorical question, it's a real one. Given that Amtrak has already published the disruption notice, what do you expect to see in these pages that we are uniquely qualified to supply?
I guess I don't see RPA putting pressure on Amtrak to handle the matter in a better way (if this is being done in secret I think RPA should inform its members). Why is the Floridian being cut back to Pittsburgh? Why is the Cardinal being cancelled entirely? Why is one Floridian set consistently running without a diner? Why did Amtrak never implement the full return to traditional dining, with tablecloths and china, that it promised several years ago? I would feel happier if I knew that RPA were on top on these things. But it seems RPA's primary interest is in holding meetings and conferences.
I am totally surprised there is nothing about Amtrak's plans to eliminate all service south and west of Washington for a while in October.
